The collection of tanned leather from Acabados Abellán for the next spring-summer 2017 season is on par with the prevailing trend of ‘more is more’ in which excess is knocking at the door. Minimalism is behind us now as the ever pioneering firms Gucci or Prada have confirmed. Next year also promises big thrills, variety, a bit of retro and the return of the eternal femininity: it’s all about reinventing shapes with an up-to-date touch to them.
When it comes to leather accessories, in the summer of 2017 we will be dazzled by strikingly eye-catching accessories, which will be combined with relatively simple clothes: the shoe becomes a collectible item once again, a fetish and personality symbol. Bags won’t be so uniform: no longer will every woman have a shoulder or clutch bag, the models from the 1920s, 30s, and 40s are coming back in and hopefully with more originality. Power to imagination.
According to these trends the colour scheme of Acabados Abellán mixes tradition with modernity thanks to a set of contrasting contemporary key tones. As well as the classic seasonal vibrant and energizing colours, there is a strong influence of blue and earthy tones and as they show us on the catwalk, this means that the trick here is to create the perfect combinations to compensate and get a balance without losing the essence of the message.
Fusion of cultures
Another leading trend in 2017 will be the fusion of different cultures and intercultural codes. Sustainability will be conveyed through the beauty of rustic materials with leathers that evoke craftsmanship, patchwork, braiding, aged leathers, matt effects, tassel fringes, prints and a touch of the Caribbean.
Ever since Karl Lagerfeld chose Cuba for his Channel cruise collection fashion show, among the trees and the marble benches of the Paseo del Prado in Havana, just a month and a half after the historic Rolling Stones concert, Cuba is official the country of fashion. And it will continue to be next spring-summer 2017. In line with this global trend, Caicos has been inspired by the Caribbean, just like the vibrant tones of Keral with its intense yellow or the orange brushstrokes of Brooklyn. Whereas the Mojave, is a mustard colour with an exotic and spicy air to it, a speck of light to add lots of energy and vitality.
Nature
The consumption of bio products and the healthy trend has also spread into the world of fashion with a certain lyricism of nature and the desire to recreate a natural world in our daily urban surroundings. We already saw plants on numerous occasions in the collections of Rochas, Lanvin and Dries van Noten. Even the amazing fashion designer of Maison Margiela, John Galliano, has chosen fabric with plants for the former austere collections of Parisian fashion house.
This global macrotrend has resulted in Acabados Abellán incorporating wallpaper effects in its proposal for the summer 2017 season, which is quite evident in models such as Rander; volumes in the leathers, padded effects, with matt and glossy contrasts, textures that are reminiscent of origami such as the Pompeya model and leathers that evoke embroidery, made by hand, such as the Quebec. The green of Beron is another highlight that brings to mind the coolness, vegetation and the tropical leaves of inspiration or safari.
Blue protagonist
Blue is one of the main characters in the Acabados Abellán proposal for the summer 2017, it’s a cool and calming colour that manages to be powerful and vivacious at the same time. Miranda is a reassuring, safe and stabilizing colour and, in addition to that, its special tone makes it extremely sophisticated. Genil is the sky blue colour that could be defined as being the twin of Serenity, the colour that was nominated as being the Colour of the Year 2016 along with Rose Quartz. Just like Genil, with Garma sensations of lightness, liberty and peace come to mind, perhaps in response to this period of intense conflict.
In another range of colours, Albar is the most impressive model of this colour scheme, the tone that symbolically breaks away from the stability of the other colours. Cemba is a sensual, bold and passionate red that is very attractive and stimulating. This exhilarating and dynamic red can be combined with the neutral Klin that softens it, with the smooth Nassau to balance it or with Adra to enrich it with warmth and elegance.
